Dis-member you missed my point about working along with your prayers, I wasn't promoting prayer! read it again! And yes, there ARE a lot of differing viewpoints, and it IS confusing coming out of a closed system that is WTland into the real world. It takes time to acclimatise and form your own opinions.

So lennaB, take your time, read a lot, don't make any immediate decisions, don't talk about this to other jw's till you're more confident in what you think . Best of luck matey!

please help with this: when i was in college, there was a lot of talk about university and how all who pursue that are wasting their time and all that.

even before going to uni, there was a lot of pressurr on me concerning my decision.

during that time, two elders sat with me for appointment as ms and asked me if i have freedom of speech in the org since i'm going to uni and i said no.

Don't forget the scripture about being an overseer says "if any man is DESIROUS of fine work.." it'd not automatic that once you become a certain age or ability you get appointed, you've got to want to.

just tell them that this is a big factor to you personally, you're praying for the desire, for the right attitude, and you're leaving it with jehovah. They'll get back to you every six months but stick to your guns and they'll get the message...

Hi lenna, regarding prayers, there's a reason they tell us that praying is useless unless you WORK ALONGSIDE THEM.

If for example, I prayed for a job, then sat on my arse for the next three weeks and got a job anyway, yes, prayer might be more believable. But we're told to work alongside our prayers, get OFF our arses and look for a job, give jehovah something to bless. So we go out and make the effort and we get the job. And if we don't get a job then we think "well it clearly wasn't to be, it wasn't jehovah's will '. This is called confirmation bias, we're fitting the facts to what we want to believe.

I think it was the July 2013 WT that has an example of a CO not having enough money to put fuel in for a return journey somewhere, he went anyway, and lo and behold, he received a donation of exactly enough to get home! The thing is, at thistime, the tsunami in the Philippines had just happened. There were 27 jw's cowering INSIDE A KINGDOM HALL no doubt praying their socks off, but they all perished. I doubt very much that a god would step in to provide fuel money but ignore the congregated pleas of his people in HIS place of worship at a genuine calamitous time.

Besides, if he EVER steps in even for trivial things like providing fuel money (or helping a brother find a pen in the street so he could write a return visit down - true story) then surely that's exactly what satan accused him of with Job? Putting a fence around his followers. How can he intervene, full stop?

When I think back to answered prayers, I realise that I worked alongside them, I accomplished what I wanted. There were many other prayers that didn't get answered because life's a bitch.

i am a middle-aged man with many decades of being a witness of jehovah god in england.. this important letter is personally to you, just as many of the bible's 88 letters are to be taken personal by you the reader.

i am writing to you to urge you to take stock of your life, think what your future holds for you.

I am not disfellowshipped. I am not homosexual. I am not stumbled by an individual. I am not full of hate.

I AM a practicing witness in good standing. I am here because it all simply does not add up.

I understand that you're writing from a sincere place. But be aware that not everyone here fits neat pigeonholes.

There are also a LARGE number of people that only post for a while then leave to get on with their lives . It's not as simple or black and white as the WT makes out I'm afraid matey.

this 5 yr old boy has a brain tumour.. he was taken away from this hospital by his jw parents.

when i read the story, i just had a feeling....... they have fled to france.

his feeding tube runs out today.. what kind of sick, selfish and delusional parent would do that to their own children???

every step they make, is for promoting jw.org.

when they speak, they only speak about jw.org.

I agree, too much negativity. I don't think it's burying one's head in the sand to point out the good things now and then, it seems only the bad news actually makes the news..

Might I echo what dis-member said above. Absolutely right in my case too. Although I still have a fair bit of angst about whether/when/how to have THE conversation with the missus..
